Nigeria made history by outlawing female genital mutilation, which involves cutting female genitalia that often leads to lifelong health complications. More than 130 million women worldwide are subjected to the procedure in Africa and the Middle East. Nigeria joins Egypt, South Africa, and 16 other African countries that have outlawed the practice.
