Moving Towards a Water Pricing Regime
Water pricing is the only long-term, sustainable solution to promote efficient and equitable use of this precious natural resource. A 2015 study by the IMF says water subsidies provided through public utilities amounted to 0.6% of global gross domestic product in 2012 and are “also inequitable, disproportionately benefiting upper-income groups”.
