Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), representing 48 big pharma companies, is one of the largest and most influential lobbying organizations in Washington, according to Sourcewatch. In 2008 alone, the industry spend more than $234 million on federal lobbying to protect drug price monopolies.
