The HUL mercury thermometer factory in South India, shut in 2001 because its workers were exposed to toxic mercury and not provided with adequate protective gear, resulting in casualties. After extended agitation of over 14 years, HUL has agreed to compensation, but the agitators for the cause now are further working to esnure Kodai is cleaned up of toxicity.
