CFL Bulbs Tossed into Trash Damages Environment

Approximately 90 per cent of compact fluorescent light bulbs are being tossed in the trash, potentially contaminating the environment with mercury and ending up in landfills. The energy-efficient bulbs contain approximately five milligrams of mercury each and the heavy metal has been shown to cause brain damage if inhaled or ingested.
