Hefty Penalty for Violation of Green Laws in India

Highlighting that the existing penalties are too meagre to be taken seriously by violators, the Environment ministry is looking to increase the fine from Rs 1 lakh to a minimum of Rs 5 crore and imprisonment up to 7 years for causing environmental damage. The ministry will now devote all its efforts to ensure compliance of the environmental laws.
