Biodegradables Will Not Help Ocean Pollution, Say Experts

Using biodegradable plastic water bottles and shopping bags marketed as a sustainable alternative to plastic waste that ends up in the sea, is not a simple solution to ocean waste problem, according to Jacqueline McGlade, chief scientist at the UNEP. Biodegradables will only break down in temperatures of 50C and that is not the ocean, she said.
