The two generations are both helplessly bound to their roles – one, a strict father, and the other a misunderstood child. While this generation learned sexual openness from Friends and emotional vulnerability on MSN Messenger, the earlier generation learned reticence and shame from the rules of social conduct displayed by the adults around them.
