Disney Film Depiction of Obese Polynesian God Sparks Anger
Portrayal of the god Maui as obese in a Disney film has angered many across the Pacific islands, and prompted debate over unhealthy stereotypes of Polynesian men on screen. In Polynesian mythology Maui is a person of strength, magnitude and of a godly nature who created the Pacific Islands by fishing them out of the sea.
